A New Journey
Congratulations! You have navigated all three trimesters, and now your miracle is here! With your newest addition to your life, it is time for a change, again. Your routine, body, hormones, and emotions are all working together to find a new normal again. Here are some tips to help you navigate the postpartum period smoothly.
Feel your Feelings
There are no set rules in parenting that say you can’t feel completely in love with your little one while also feeling overwhelmed. Both can be true at the same time. Making space for all your emotions, the joyful ones, and the more complicated, heavier ones, truly matters. If the harder feelings start to outweigh the rest, seeking postpartum counseling can be a meaningful way to support yourself as you navigate anxiety, depression, or the many adjustments that come with this new season.
Celebrate Your Body with Movement
The hard truth is that your body will never be the same, but the beautiful aspect is that this means you have a chance to celebrate how incredible your body is. You created life! Moving your body is about feeling good and a sense of normalcy, not losing weight. Talking with your provider about safe exercises or walking distances will work best for you.
Be Your Own Advocate
You will know your body best. Remember, you are amazing, but you are not Super Woman. If something doesn’t feel quite right or you notice unusual symptoms, don’t hesitate to reach out to your provider. It’s always okay to check in! Addressing concerns early can help prevent more serious complications. If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, significant dizziness, or heavy bleeding, be sure to contact your doctor promptly.
You are Capable!
Caring for yourself nurtures both your mental and physical well-being, helping you show up as the best mom you can be. Even when it feels difficult, making time for yourself isn’t selfish; it’s truly necessary.
